Coxhoe United's first ever fun day & football festival proved a great success despite the best efforts of the weather to spoil the occasion. Given the torrential downpours on the day the attendance was magnificent. Some of the best youth football clubs in the area had accepted our invitation to attend the day which was helped along, as ever, by the best DJ in the North, the legendary "Mr DJ Man" himself, James with his excellent Hi-Lights Disco. Ever since the formation of the Football Club James has been a HUGE friend of Coxhoe United and helped us in every social event we have held from the many parties arranged for all the children to social events for parents. Why not visit his website at www.hi-lightsdisco.com or click on his banner below.

For next season's under 10s competition in the Russell Foster Youth Leagues, Coxhoe United have entered 2 teams. CUFC Panthers and CUFC Cougars will battle in different RFYL divisions.

The club continues to grow and youngsters are turning up in ever increasing numbers to our training nights. Due to the increase in numbers it has been decided to register a second Under 10s team to play in the Russell Foster League in the new year.
A Under 8s development team may also be registered (aimed at players 5, 6 & 7 years) if there is enough interest (and commitment) from players & parents.

We have just received a letter from the parents of our under 11s ex-goalkeeper David "King Of The Box" Atkinson

"As most of you know our son David Atkinson has left Coxhoe United and moved to Hartlepool United. David and ourselves will never forget the good times, the ups and downs of football and also the great friends we have made. We would like to say thank you for the encouragement and support given to David by the coaches, players and parents which we feel has helped him progress to being offered a year long contract with a football league club.

The under 10s team which David played for last season was a pleasure to be part of and David says they are a great bunch of friends.

We would especially like to thank Kevin & Lisa Smith, Paul & Julie Borthwick and Kevin Appleby who were there in the beginning and who, with help from a few parents, helped set up the new club.

We would like to wish Coxhoe United all the best for the future and we’re sure that passion & commitment shown by people like Kevin Smith will keep the club at the top level.

Coxhoe United has just been awarded Charter Standard Status by the F.A. and is run by qualified coaches. If you have children between the ages of 6-12 we would highly recommend Coxhoe United as a club that is going places,"

Yours,

Chris & June Atkinson.

Under 11s Goalkeeper signs for Hartlepool United

David Atkinson our under 11s goalkeeper has signed a one year contract with professional league club Hartlepool United following a 6 week trail. David is a goalkeeper with a tremendous natural ability and his development since the formation of the club has been breathtaking. David is hugely popular with players and parents alike and everyone at Coxhoe wishes him all the best at his new club.

Charter Standard Status

Coxhoe United are proud to announce that they have been awarded "Charter Stantard" status by the FA after being in existence for only a single season.
It all started in the summer of 2005 when a group of parents got together and decided to establish a new football club based in Coxhoe consisting of a single team with a squad of 9 youngsters to play in the Sunderland based Russell Foster small sided league in the Under 10s age group. As word spread about the new club new players of varying ages started showing up at training and so it was the 2005/6 season kicked off in the September of that year with three Coxhoe United teams playing at Under 10s, Under 9s & under 8s development.
These three teams were joined after the mid season break by a further two teams with an under 8s and the club's first all girls team playing at Under 12s, taking advantage of the huge amount of talent in the village as many of the girls also play in Coxhoe Junior school's highly successful  girls team which represented the area in last season's Northern schools championship at Blackburn.
The club goes into the 2006/7 season with 6 teams, 4 mixed and 2 all girls, and, with over 100 youngsters now registered, many parents are becoming interested in coaching. The club currently has 9 qualified coaches, one of whom has reached the dizzy hights of a EUFA B badge, and although he's qualified to manage Inter Milan or Barcelona he's staying at Coxhoe United.
The club is run in a highly democratic manner with all parents welcome at the committee meetings with 1 family, 1 vote being used in any decision making. This means that the meetings, which are held in the local WMC, are very well attended, and with Coxhoe having such a strong community spirit, great friendships have been forged by parents accross the various age groups.
Such friendships are vital when it comes to the ever important issue of fundraising. Last year 12 hardy souls (nutters) went for a swim in the less than tropical Boxing Day North Sea at Roker which not only raised a considerble amount for the club itself, but also for a number of local charities. Even more parents aim to be involved in the 2006 Boxing Day Dip.
Playing for United means a great deal to the youngsters as it's a great way not only to make new friends, but also to raise levels of self esteem and discipline in a safe and friendly enviroment.

Coxhoe United Lottery

We have now received permission from Durham City Council to start our own Lottery to raise money for Coxhoe United. We are planning to start this at the beginning of May after the Blackpool tournaments. All you have to do is choose 3 letters from the alphabet. The cost is £1 per week (half goes to the club, and half to the winning pot) for each line you choose & you can have as many lines as you want. Click on the button below to find out more details and get your letters to Brian as soon as possible (by email or next time you see him) so he can start setting up the spreadsheet. Make sure you get the payment to him before the first draw or your line won't be valid in the draw. Draws will be made during training on Thursday nights.
This Lottery is open to everyone over 16, so tell your friends, family and neighbours. The more people that enter means a bigger winners pot and more money to the club.

Congratulations to Jean Cowans in winning £41 in the first ever Coxhoe Lottery.

Make sure you let all your friends, family and workmates know about the Coxhoe UFC Lottery so next week's jackpot will be even bigger.

March News

There wasn’t much football played in February due to the wet weather but the under 10s managed to get the 2 victories they needed to guarantee at least runners up spot and of course promotion. Congratulations to the team and a big thank you to the coaching staff . Under the guidance of Paul Borthwick, Kevin Smith and Paul Mullen (EUFA B Badge) the children are enjoying higher quality coaching than they’ve experienced in previous seasons. If the improvement continues we can hopefully look forward to another promotion push in the next campaign.

Because of all the cancellations in the Russell Foster leagues we are likely to play games on a Saturday and Sunday. Please bear in mind that we may not know until the Saturday that we are due to play on the Sunday. Your coach/manager should keep you up to date.

In order to obtain (and retain) Charter Standard Status a club must have a number of things in place such as a Club Committee with regular meetings and a Club-Constitution. The latter was the only item outstanding for us to proceed to Charter Standard Status so the club constitution was agreed at our latest (well attended) committee meeting held on the 28th of February. Once Charter Standard Status is achieved more opportunities open up for the club.

March sees the clocks go forward so we can get back to outdoor training from Thursday 30th March from 5:30 till 7:30 on the field next to Coxhoe Sports Centre.

Our coaching staff is ever expanding and we will have another 4 coaches going through their level 1 qualification in the coming weeks.

Fundraising is always an ongoing issue and with this in mind we are looking for volunteers to join a Fundraising Committee. This will consist of 3-5 people to generate ideas and organise events. Anyone interested can inform Julie, Lisa or Kevin.

Because of such efforts our players can look forward to The Blackpool tournament with FREE Accommodation with FREE Coach travel for the entire weekend. A great time will be had by all.

Thanks to all who left their creative comments in the guestbook and while our children’s spelling is excellent it may help others to use spell check or maybe have a dictionary to hand.

February News.

We are looking to develop 2 new teams in the Leagues in March - The girls will enter their first team at under 12s level playing on a Saturday morning at Washington and a Under 8s team will enter a team in the normal league as well as having a team in the development league.

This is a costly and time consuming undertaking so we are looking for parents to actively help out with the teams and seeking sponsorship. If you are interested in getting involved or know someone who could sponsor the teams then please inform your manager/coach.

As we only have 1 hour for training it is vital that the coaches can get on with their sessions without too much interruption To that end we have issued the Codes of conduct for all players, spectators, parents, coaches/managers. You can view them on the Codes Of Conduct page in the menu or by clicking here.

The date of the next committee meeting is Tuesday 28 February at 8:00pm. The main agenda is Club Constitution and Fundraising. If you've never attended the committee meetings are friendly affairs, but more importantly is is an opportununity to have a say in how YOUR club is run.

The coaching staff have also written a letter which you can view by clicking here.

December News

Coxhoe United continues to grow and despite only being a few months old we now have over 45 children registered with the club!!

A very wet November meant that there was very little Russell Foster league action to report.

Off the field their was a committee meeting with an excellent attendance of 20 people. The next meeting is to be held on Tuesday 13 December.

We have enough girls to enter an under 12s team who will plat at Downhill, Sunderland. Vicky & Jim are doing an excellent job but need more parents to help them out.

The Sunderland Echo have a 8 page Russell Foster League pullout every Wednesday. The coverage is extensive and all of our teams are included.
