Coxhoe's fisrt game was against top of the league side Redby. Both teams started well be it was Redby who broke the deadlock and it was not long before they were two nil up coxhoe give 100% but could not find the net. Second half coxhoe pushed forward but Redby nicked two more goals.

The second and last game in the cup league was against Leam Rangers with coxhoe applying pressure from the start with good passing football Sarah Wilson and Olivier Wharrier did well down both flanks supporting Nicole Lawson in attack. Lucy Hubery in the middle was winning every tackle and worked really hard in front of Sammy Midgley and our normal goalkeeper Abbie Hodgson playing as an outfield player who did really well. Coxhoe pressed forward and had plenty of chances Leam threatened on the break put Bianca Pryde was solid in goal. The second half again saw Coxhoe press forward with numerous corners which really threatened with Lucy Hubery, Olivia Wharrier and Nicole Lawson all going close. Ashleigh Wilkie replaced Abbie Hodgson in the second half and defended well. Coxhoe's goal finally came with Sarah Wilson taking a corner and the ball came back for her to drill a right foot shot into the corner off the net. The girls then gave 110% to hold on to the lead and finish off with a win.

Coxhoe went into the game with high expectations after two much improved performances last week. The game started well with Whitlease having kick off and our midfield closing them down from the off. Whitlease however brought the first scare of the game as they went close from 5 yards after 2 mins. The defence shook themselves off and defended brilliently with Whitlease applying losts of pressure but could not break through. Coxhoe went close at the other end on two occasions but could not get the ball over the line. Two minutes prior to half time Whitlease won a corner which was played in high and Emily Stores cleared well but the ball fell to the corner taker who lifted the ball to the edge of the box where a whitlease player managed to volly the ball sweetly into the left hand coner of the goal. No chance for the keeper to even get a hand to it. The game flowed well until half time but neither team managed any clear chances. The second half began the same as the first had ended with both sides playing well up to the box but not manageing to get the clear stike on goal they required. Whitleas again won a corner on the right hand side and again the ball was played out to the edge of the box. This time a good block from Jodie prevented the ball going in but the rebound was met by a fierce drive which was goal bound. The pace of the ball had everyone beat including Bethney Beecham in goal with the ball stiking her in the face and being deflected over the bar. The game was stopped with Bethany being unable to continue and Jodie deputies in goal. The balace of the second half was played in good spirt by both teams with a number of good saves by Jodie and some excellent interceptions by Hayley, Carley and Emily peventing the scoreline being increased. A brilliant display from all the girls.

 Coxhoe 0 v Swallwell Swifts 6
We had several players missing due to the bank holiday , so people had to play out of position. The girls seemed very tired in this game and took a while to get going . Swallwell took advantage of this and soon had a number of goals past us . The only player awake for the whole game was Ashleigh Stores who had her best game of the season. However , after half time they started to play football and Megan and Abigail hounded the Swallwell goal ,but again the goals would just not go in .

Coxhoe 0 v Fulwell 2
This was one of the best games the U10s have played . They were a pleasure to watch . Again Asheigh had a brilliant game , supported in defence by Beth Vasey ,who made a few runs up towards goal . We constantly pressured the Fulwell goal with Abigail having shot after shot , (when will they go in !!!!!) We lost in the dying minutes to two excellant goals , who nobody could have stopped . A big thank you goes to Jodie who stepped into goal after Bethany had to go off injured . Again thanks parents for your great support and cheering .

Under 10s

This weekend was crunch time. With one game left to play Coxhoe sat fourth in the league – 3 points behind joint second position Ousten and Houghton. A high scoring win for United and defeats for both those teams would mean silverware in the Coxhoe trophy cabinet.

Hilda Park Terriers were the opposition, and being a Division 1 team last season meant these 2 teams had never met before, but current league positions would suggest a win for Coxhoe should be on the cards. The Terriers had a different opinion and made life very difficult for Coxhoe in the opening minutes, having the majority of possession and creating more goal chances. The United defence were as resilient as ever and fended off the pressure during the first half.

Into the second half and a tactical change put Lee Saiger into Coxhoe’s attacking force. Almost immediately he made his height count when he was perfectly positioned to head home from a well taken corner to claim the only goal of the game.

Unfortunately, results in the other 2 games didn’t go Coxhoe’s way, but a well deserved fourth position (joint 3rd in points) is their highest finishing position since the team formed two seasons ago.

Final Result – Coxhoe United 1, Hilda Park 0. MoM – Lee Saiger

Under 10 Lions

After an enjoyable first season the Lions last game of the season was against Nissan Tigers who were 4th in the league and were always going to be tough opposition, also we made changes in almost every position with Keiren Jowett taking over in goal and Mark playing at the back with Keiren Latcham, the midfield trio were Rhys, James and Jordan with Lewis up front. With so many changes it was difficult for the lads to adapt to their new positions and we conceded 3 early goals and it wasn’t until the last 5 mins of the half that we put a few passes together but again lack of concentration cost us another couple of goals before half time.

A reminder that we have tried to play football all season and hadn’t so far this game seemed to work at half time and with another switch around at half time Joe replaced Mark and Michael replaced Rhys in centre midfield, this seemed to spur the lads on as we came out second half to give the Tigers a game. We looked strong at the back with Joe and Jordan winning a lot of tackles and Keiren making some fines saves on debut, the combination of the tough tackling and always chasing Michael in midfield with Latchy wide on the right helped us create a number of chances in the 2nd half as we attacked the Tigers as chances came for Lewis and Keiren but again we failed to make a break thru’. Then from a short goal kick Joe received the ball wide, got his head up and his ball down the line saw Keiren break the tackle and make a run on goal but with only the keeper to beat the shot lacked power and the keeper saved. The second half remained goalless after a much better performance from the Lions as the game finished 5-0 to Nissan.

Hope you have all enjoyed the season as much as me and thanks for the soaking at the end of game !!!!

Under 9s

United's last game in the under 9's was against Fulwell FC Juniors, with a much changed side United start well, new signing Sam Murphy keeps the Fulwell keeper busy with two great shots in the first minute, United have all the play and in the 8th minute they get the goal they deserve, with a nice through ball from Aaron Cane, Sam Murphy gets his debut goal when he slots the ball passed the Fullwell keeper, United still apply the pressure but could not extend their lead. In the last 3 minutes of the half Fullwell upt the tempo and start to dominate. United hold out and go into the break 1-0 up.
Second half sees the introduction of Top Goalscorer Anthony Wharrier and he immediately makes an impact with a nice shot that is saved on the line. Fullwell still have the edge and with some nice play midway through the second half Fullwell get their equalizer, United change things after the goal with Connor Pritchard replacing the goalscorer Sam Murphy, United start to get back in the game with Anthony Wharrier, Faye Mullen & Flynn Fisher all going close. With United starting to run out of time Sam Murphy comes back on for Aaron Cane but the game ends 1-1.
Goalscorer - Sam Murphy - Mom - Faye Mullen.

Jeff & Ian would like to thank all the players and their families for their support in what has been a difficult season, we can now look forward to Blackpool & then moving up into the Under 10's with what we hope will be two teams fighting for promotion, enjoy the break from league action and keep up the hard work in training. THANKS TO YOU ALL.

The first game today was against Hilda Park and is always a tough game Hilda Park applied pressure but Coxhoe defended well with Sophie And Sammy standing firm and when the hit the target Abbie was excellent in goal. Coxhoe scored with Sarah dribbling down the left side for Nicole to bury home with a well worked goal. The second was very open with Hilda Park trying for an equaliser with Abbie making some great saves and the girls held on for another great win

The second game today was against Deerness Both sides started brightly but it was Deerness who scored. The second half saw Coxhoe throwing everyone forward and pile on pressure but deerness defended well for the win but Coxhoe can still be proud of their performance.

Under 13 Girls Midweek

Coxhoe,s first game was against Jarrow and the girls were wanted to win this one after a defeat by Jarrow in their last game and started well applying pressure from the start Nicole Lawson scored the goal in the first half with good build up and a cool finish. The second half was tight with Jarrow looking for an equaliser but Coxhoe held firm for the win

The second game was against Leam Rangers and was end to end with both sides creating good chances. The second half saw Coxhoe working hard in every position trying to create an opening and it paid off with about 2mins to go with a corner and Ashleigh Wilkie getting on the end of the cross to bury the ball home with her first and well deserved goal for the club another good win for the girls

Under 11 Girls

The game started well with the Coxhoe defence solid at the back. Bethney Garner and Jodie Borthwick were busy in midfield and put pressure on the Pelton goal after 4 mins. The shot howerver was parried by the keeper and out for a corner. The game flowed form end to end with both sides finding it hard to break into each others box. Both sides went close with Bethany Garner again being a threat through her blistering pace and Jodie causing problems down the left side with the close control. As the half continued Coxhoe's defence began to play a part in the attack and Hayley Barge, Carley Liddle and particuly Emily Stores made good penetrating runs into the Pelton half. Just before half time however Coxhoe were struck by a lob from 25 yard which looped over Evan Headley outstreached arms and into the back of the net. The second half followed the same pattern with Coxhoe working very hard all over the field. Again Coxhoe were finding it hard to find the back of the net and as the game drew to a close a mistake at the back between Evan and Haley allowed Pelton to poke home a second. An excellent game to watch with praise from the ref and Pelton manager for Coxhoe's attitude.

After Coxhoe's opening game being close we changed our formation and went with 2 at the back pushing Emily Stores into Centre Midfield and Beth Garner as striker. It was clear after 3 minutes that this was a mistake with our two defenders not adapting well to the change.Washington scored 3 quick goals in the first half with no reply. A half time talk showed the girls heads had gone down a little so we reverted back to our usual 3-2-1 line up with Emily Stores taking over at centre half. The side looked much more balanced and the chances for washington dried up. The girls were however taking some knocks with Beth Garner the main target. Jodie took a knock to the anckle and was replaced by Megan who battled well ont he left side. Washington had been reduced to only long range efforts in the second half but a coner 3 mins from time was met with a first time volly on the edge of the box which flew into the back of the net. A must better second half for the girls who showed great sprit and determination throughout the day.

U10 Girls  Coxhoe 0 v Ford & Hylton 4 (28th April )

This was an excellant performance by the team , with players having to play in different positions as Sophie could not play . The girls were determined to play well and came very close to scoring in the second half , only the long grass stopped the goal . Holly saved some brilliant goals and Abigail and Vanessa worked extremely hard to try to get a goal back . This was a great game even though we lost as we usually lose against this team at least 8-0.

U10 Girls Coxhoe 1 v Swallwell Juniors 5

Yes you have read correctly , we did score a goal and we scored it first . Well done to Megan who passed a lovely cross to Abigail , who this time made sure it went into the back of the net . Swallwell soon scored to equalise and then took the lead . However , it must be said that Beth Vasey did a superb job in goal and noone else wanted to . She made several brave saves to keep the score down . Megan and Ashleigh worked their hearts out in defence bringing the attacks straight out of defence . This was one of our best games and to make it so special the referee at the end of the game said he would have loved to have given us a team of the day award , as the girls are always so polite , keep trying and always have a smile on their faces . That is why l enjoy working with them . A personal thanks go to all the parents of the U10 and U11 teams , for all their help and support . You are a credit to your children !!!!!!!

Under 11s

The under 11s last remaining game was a home fixture against Lambton Lions. The first half was a tight affair and it took an excellent Lee Milburn effort to break the deadlock on 24 minutes with his 23rd goal for United since his transfer from Durham County earlier in the season. He very nearly doubled his and Coxhoe's tally three minutes later but this effort hit the post.
Going into the second half Coxhoe struggled to find their form of late but the solid looking United defence never looked
like being breeched and the game finished 1-0.
Final Score Coxhoe United 1  Lambton Lions 0 - MoM Jordan Woodward.

This match marked the end of an incredible season for the under 11s. Christmas 2006 saw the boys rooted to the bottom of the first division with a paltry 2 points from 11 matches with a goal difference of -27. Relegation looked a certainty as Coxhoe struggled with the step up to the 11 a side game but the excellent management team of Steve Woodward and Kevin Smith never lost faith. A stunning final half of the season saw United gain 24 points from 11 matches with a +15 goal difference which pushed the boys up to a respectable mid table finish. Expectations are high for the 2007/8 season.

Under 10s

Another big weekend of football was on the agenda for Coxhoe United Under 10's with everything to play for in the final stages of the cup league for the top 4 teams.

Fulwell Juniors were the first opposition of the day and United started brightly enough with a James Gilson strike finding the side netting on 2 minutes, and 30 seconds later taking the lead as Cameron Holdsworth slotted home from an Alex McGrath through ball. A 5 minute period of Fulwell pressure followed resulting in a well taken corner that was converted into the equalizer. Some resilient play from both teams followed with Jack Thirlaway, Stephen Wadge and Lee Saiger in goal defending stubbornly for Coxhoe.

The 2nd half saw fresh legs brought on in the form of Andrew Simpson up front and Jamie Appleby bolstering the defense pushing Jack Thirlaway forward into a midfield position. A couple of early Coxhoe chances, one from a free kick that was tipped out for a corner, and the second headed ball from Alex McGrath which took a fantastic save from the Fulwell keeper to retain the even goal count. With 5 minutes left to play, Lee Saiger pulled off a fantastic save from close range, then Coxhoe came straight back with a shot from an awkward angle beating the Juniors keeper so Cameron Holdsworth could claim his second.

Final Score - Fulwell Juniors 1, Coxhoe United 2. MoM - Cameron Holdsworth

Hetton Juniors were today's second opponents for Coxhoe and from the kick off they piled on the pressure showing their determination and ambition to finish in the top 2 this season. Several excellent runs from Curtis Bihari and some combination work between Curtis, James Gilson and finally the strike from Andrew Simpson forcing a great tip-over from the Hetton keeper. Chance after chance for Coxhoe followed in the 1st half but it was proving to be another day where the final ball couldn't be made to count.

United started brightly in the 2nd half with Curtis Bihari again being instrumental in many of the attacking moves. The Juniors didn't sit back, however, and broke through the Coxhoe defense on a couple of occasions, but Lee Saiger was quickly off his line both times to diffuse the situation. Coxhoe shots were coming from many different positions, including a half-way line rocket from Jack Thirlaway but nothing could penetrate the Juniors defense.

Final result - Coxhoe United 0, Hetton Juniors 0. MoM - Alex McGrath

Under 10 Lions

Coxhoe united lions kicked off their first game against high flying
Farringdon Detached. Within the first five minutes Coxhoe went 1-0 up
through a well worked goal. A quick free kick by Keiran Latchum split
Farringdon's defence which allowed James Gaskell to take control of the
ball. James found himself one on one with the keeper and still managed
to slot the ball cooly past him. As the game went on Farringdon
dominated the midfield and were rewarded with three quick goals before
half time. The second half started brightly with hard working Jordan
Atkinson and Michael Wake  working their socks off to keep Farringdon
at bay. Although Coxhoe were really trying Farringdon went on to score
another four goals but if not for inspirational goalkeeping from Mark
Arnold Farringdon may have added to their tally.
  Coxhoe United Lions 1  Farringdon Detached 7 - M O M - Jordan Atkinson

Coxhoe United Lions started their second game against Grindon YFC
confidently and did not let their defeat in the first game dishearten
them.Lewis Myers worked well on the right wing which led to him taking
on two Grindon players. He put in a great cross for Joe Nixon who
unfortunately blazed it over the bar. Grindon broke away with some
great passing and shot, luckily for Coxhoe, just wide of the post.
Within a minute of nearly conceding the first goal, Keiran Jowett
received the ball and lost his marker by swiftly cutting inside. He
then passed the ball to Keiran Latchum who took it well and blasted the
ball from outside the box. The Grindon keeper had no chance and the
ball flew into the keepers top right hand corner of the net. The first
half saw some great attacking football from both sides but it was
Grindon who equalised just before half time when a goal scramble saw
the ball bobble into the back of the net.
The second half was very similar to the first with exciting but nail-
biting end to end football. Rhys 'Tricky' Wayman came on and caused
problems for the Grindon defence with his pace and skill. Grindon's
nice passing created an opening for their striker who finished with a
rasping shot. Mark Arnold had no chance of saving this due to the speed
and power of the shot. As time was running out the talented Keiran
Latchum went off with a knock to the head. It looked like our luck had
ran out until a long, high ball landed in the box and Joe Nixon
volleyed it into the back of the net. Straight away from the resulting
kick off Grindon attacked the Coxhoe goal and shot it into the top
corner. It would have almost certainly been a goal if not for Mark
Arnolds superb tip over the bar. Once again Coxhoe's slick passing
between Michael Wake and Keiran Jowett resulted in another pass to Rhys
Wayman. Rhys twisted and turned through Grindons' defence only to see
his shot land timidly at the keepers feet. With minutes to go Grindon
scored a really good goal which was very harsh on the Coxhoe United
Lions who deserved at least a draw from an entertaining game.
Final Score   Grindon YFC 3  Coxhoe UTD 2 - MOM: Keiran Latchum

Coxhoe v Chester Athletic

United start and were looking to bounce back after a run of poor results, from the whistle United pressure with Anthony Wharrier's shot just the wrong side of the post. Sam Murphy & Lewis Elmer both working the keeper, United get the break through with a typical Wharrier goal, Sam & Lewis play a nice one,two on the edge of the area then Sam threads the ball through to Anthony whos low shot gives the keeper no chance. One minute later Anthony should of made it 2 with a lob that just goes over the bar. Just before the break Danny Teggert scores his first of the season with a brilliant solo effort when he runs from his own box to smash the ball in the top corner "Magnificent goal". United go into the break 2-0 up and under no pressure.
The second half sees two changes with Faye Mullen coming on for Joe Wilson in midfield and Jordan Harker coming on for Sam Murphy up front, with a 2 goal cushion and Danny Teggert, Flynn Fisher & Zahan Bomanji playing well at the back United push up with Faye Mullen & Lewis Elmer bossing the midfield. Anthony & Jordan were seeing plenty of the ball in the final third, but with one lapse of concentration Chester were back in the game with a nice worked goal, United then upt the tempo and with a delightful chip from Lewis sees United's 2 goal advantage restored. United finish the game 3-1.
Goalscorers - Anthony Wharrier, Danny Teggert & Lewis Elmer - Mom - Danny Teggert & Lewis Elmer.

Coxhoe United v Washington Junior Haze.

Again United start well with Jordan & Lewis both working the Haze keeper, in the 8th minute Haze opened the scoring, United never recover and Haze score again just before half time.
United make changes in  the second half, Faye Mullen coming on for Danny Teggert , Sam Murphy coming on for Jordan and Joe Wilson coming on for Lewis Elmer, United's heads were down and they conceded another goal and the game ends 3-0.
Mom - Faye Mullen & Flynn Fisher.

After two weeks without playing the girls started well going close several times but were up against a resilient Whitleas defence Coxhoes best chance came from Sophie Wilson with the keeper making a good save it was a good performance and were unlucky not to take all three points
Final Score Coxhoe United 0  Whiteleas 0 - Player OTM: Rachael Appleby

Coxhoe started the game with all of pressing forward and had chance after chance but it was Jarrow who scored with just about there only chance. The second half Coxhoe did everything but score another good performance and and very unlucky to take nothing from the game.

Coxhoe went into this game after suffering a 12 -0 howler last time against Nissan and the girls were out to show they were better than that. The game started with Coxhoe playing into a strong wind and it was not long before Nissan opened the scoring after only 1 minute with a neat passing move down the right and a powerfull low shot. The signs did not look good. The girls however responded to the challenge and prevented Nissan from any more clear chances int he first half. Boyed by the close first half performance the girls began the second half in a much more upbeat frame of mind. Nissan made two substitutions at half time which initially took our girls by supprise with the new faces linking well to score two quick goals. Coxhoe battled on and went close with Jodie and Beth Garner before Nissan broke again just before full time to end the game 4 - 0.
Player OTM - Jodie Borthwick.

The game started well for Coxhoe with Beth Garner putting pressure on the Durham defence from the kick off. Both teams played well with the Durham girls getting frustrated with our solid defence.A cross into the box was cleared by Emil only to nearly hit Kathry in the face. As she had used her hand to protect her self the award of a penelty seemed harsh. The durham player fired a fierce shot straight down the middle and Evan stood her ground and held onto the ball. The coxhoe girls kept on the pressure but a good move from left then right from durham resulted in a goal with the half ending 1-0. The second half carried on much as the first with the game flowing from end to end and Coxhoe pushing Jodie into midfield to try and get an equiliser. This did not come and Durham managed to get another two goals befor the end.
Final Score Coxhoe United 0  Durham County 3 - Player OTM - Bethany Garner.

Under 10 Girls

O n a very cold morning the girls woke up late on the pitch and by the time they had realised what was happening we were several goals down . Swallwell are a very good team  with a strong couple of strikers who always seemed to score every time they touched the ball . However, at half time we had a group wake up session and the girls went back on fighting . We never managed to score but Abigail ,Katie and Sophie all had a good go .  We must practice more at training to get the balls in the back of the net!!!!!!!
Final Score - Coxhoe United 0  Swalwell Juniors 8

Again we were caught asleep and Blaydon soon had 3 goals passed us , which upset the girls as we had beaten them last game . However , they never dropped their heads and how we didnt score l just dont know . Everyone expect Bethany Beecham in goal made runs up the pitch . Sophie went up so many times that Jim thought l had changed her postion to striker instead of left back . Dont worry girls we will beat them next time . I would just like to remind the girls that l love working with them and l dont mind if we never win as long as they are having fun!!!!!!!!
Final Score - Coxhoe United 0  Blaydon 3

The under 11s visited Plains Farm determined to get back to winning ways after their midweek loss to Hilda Park. Coxhoe enjoyed the lions share of possession in the first half but a tremendous goalkeeping display kept the game goalless until 28 minutes when Ryan Mansfield opened the scoring for Coxhoe. Evan Teggert doubled United's lead in first half injury time with his first goal since his comeback. Going into the second half Coxhoe really began to stamp their authourity on the game and Lee Milburn scored his opener at 42 minutes followed by a Ryan Mansfield goal 3 minutes later. Coxhoe suffered a bit of a scare when Plains Farm scored a couple of goals in as many minutes but Lee "goal machine" Milburn grabbed another three goals to make the final score 7-2 in Coxhoe's favour. The victory lifted the under 11s to eighth place in the Russell Foster First Division.

After the disappointment of dropping 5 points in the previous 2 matches and falling to second in the league, the boys were keen to kick start their season again to get back onto winning ways. This was going to be tough as the weekend’s first opponents were Deerness Valley Bees who joined us this season from Division 1. Although they were sitting 6 places below Coxhoe, they demonstrated that they were aiming for higher things when after 2 minutes the United defence seemed rooted to the spot as the Bees sliced through to open the scoring. Coxhoe increased the pressure and began to string some decent passes together but couldn’t make it count. Deerness made Coxhoe regret some of their earlier misses, when on 9 minutes a high lob from an initial corner looped way above everyone’s heads and somehow managed to drop at the right time to squeeze just under the crossbar to double the advantage. The hard dry uneven ground was often making the ball bobble like a cabbage and it was just such an awkward bounce that led to the Bees 3rd on 12 minutes.

United played like a different team in the 2nd half using their skill and passing abilities which had previously taken them to the top of the league, and it was Cameron Holdsworth who clawed a goal back 2 minutes into the 2nd half after breaking clear or the Bees defence and rounding the keeper skilfully. This opened up the game and the Bees keeper did really well to prevent Coxhoe closing the gap further after several good attempts on goal.

Final Result – Coxhoe United 1, Deerness Valley 3. MoM – Jamie Appleby

With the worry of falling further down the table, Coxhoe needed to put the results from the last 3 games behind them and start playing their normal football again. Both previous encounters with Easington Kites had been goalless – a score line that United needed to make sure didn’t happen today if they had any ambitions of silverware this season. Although the Kites tried to impose themselves early, with a powerful long distance shot within 20 seconds drifting harmlessly wide, but Coxhoe followed a minute later with 2 quick chances - the first being parried by the keeper and the second finding the side netting. Several minutes of hard fought midfield work followed until the deadlock was broken by United on the 9 minute mark by Andrew Simpson’s right wing shot that beat the Kites keeper and defender on the line.

In the second half Coxhoe went from strength to strength playing some of the best football of the weekend, but the Easington keeper pulled of some tremendous saves to keep the game alive for the Kites. Their equaliser almost came from a corner with 4 minutes left to play as the Easington striker gathered the ball in front of goal and seemed to have an eternity to line up his shot without being closed down, but fortunately for Coxhoe the resulting strike hit the crossbar.

Final Result – Easington Kites 0, Coxhoe Unit 1. Mom – Alex McGrath

Under 10 Lions

The first game of the weekend saw us up against one of the teams we have close links with Durham Athletic Clarets who we played in a pre-season friendly, the Lions were hoping for a better result today but we seemed still to be half asleep as we started the match slowly and gave the Clarets and early lead which they soon doubled to make it 2-0 mid way thru’ the first half. This seemed to wake us up as we began to play some football with the Ferryhill trio of Lewis and the 2 Kieren’s starting to work together in the middle of the park and the pace of Rhys upfront it looked like we could cause a few problems and Lewis was unlucky not to score as a chance in front of goal came up off his knee and went just wide, however after a couple of tactical changes we had our best spell of the match until the Clarets again pressed forward and scored 2 goals in quick succession to make it 4-0 at half time. After a wake up call at the interval we came out much more committed in the second half with Michael Wake performing well in a new midfield role and James and Jordan looking much stronger at the back as we began to press the Clarets defence and pass the all around more with the ever willing Joe Nixon working hard up front. With the hard ground and hot conditions we changed it again with the re-introduction of Rhys up front, Joe back into midfield and Michael moving back to his normal defensive position and we created a chance almost immediately as a long ball was chased down by Rhys and when the Clarets keeper fumbled it the empty net beckoned for our first goal of the day but the ball bobbled just as Rhys struck it and went just wide. Encouraged by this we pressed forward with neat passing setting Rhys away on goal and with only the keeper to beat his shot across goal looked to be heading for the back of the net but struck the post and rolled out to safety – was it going to be another one of those days in front of goal ??  As we tired in the heat the Clarets broke away again to score a 5th to leave the final score 5-0 but a much better second half performance from everyone.

Coxhoe United 0  Durham Athletic Clarets 5 MOM : Kieren Latcham

The second game of the day put us up against another Durham team, this time it was Durham County Jets and we were looking for better things following the second half performance but yet again we started the game very slowly and gifted the Jets 2 early goals as the opposition broke thru’ the defence unchallenged to leave Mark Arnold with no chance of stopping the goals. It was again a rear guard action for most of the first half with the ever impressive Michael and Jordan doing there best to keep things at bay and when they were beaten Mark was on inspired form in the Coxhoe net. We created a couple of chances and forced a couple of corners from which we had our first chance of the game but it seemed lady luck was against us again as a goal bound shot struck one of our own players back sides to prevent a goal !!

Lewis Myers created a couple of chances down the wing as he broke clear but our shooting boots seemed to have been left at home this weekend and just before the break the Jets increased their lead to 3-0. Just as in the first match the half time interval seemed to liven us up and we came out like a team again with some confidence to go at the Jets defence as we began the stronger team with Rhys up front causing problems with his pace and strength and it was a break down the right wing that he picked up and beat 2 defenders before coolly rounding the keeper and slotting the ball into the back of the net for our first goal of the weekend. The Jets picked up after that scare and had a determined spell of pressure which would have increased their lead but for some fantastic saves from Mark Arnold in the Coxhoe net, however the pressure began to tell but despite his heroics in goal the Jets finished the game the stronger to score 3 more times to leave the final score 6-1

United's only game of the day was against Castletown Rangers Whites, United started brightly with a lovely shot from distance by Lewis Elmer, Lewis again was involved as Jordan Harker just shot wide from the edge of the area. Tim Hopper and Danny Teggert were strong at the back and kept Zahan Bomanji's goal quiet the whole of the first half. United started the second half with Aarron Cane coming on for Connor Pritchard, United were under pressure from the start and conceded 2 sloppy goals in the first five minutes of the scond half, Coxhoe upt the tempo with 5 minutes to go and Connor Pritchard who came on for Joe Wilson scored his first goal for Coxhoe United from just inside the area, United applied more pressure but could not get the goal.

U10 Girls  Coxhoe 0 v Willington 10

This was a difficult match as we only had 6 players . Willington are top of the league and the girls were not looking forward to this match as we lost 10-0 last time with a full team . We lost a few quick goals before the girls had got themselves together , but then they started working as a team , especially Bethany , Sophie and Ashleigh in defence , who guarded their goal strongly . As their confidence grew so did their attacking runs , with Sophie and Abigail making some daring runs for goal . Our fitness deserted us in the final minutes but overall a galliant effort .

U10 Girls   Coxhoe 0 v Deerness 5

Last game against Deerness had been a loss of 10 goals again , but the girls were determined that with even 6 players they were not going to lose this many again . They made me proud with their courage and determination . Sophie and Abigail deserved a good lie down after all the running they did in this match . We had several good chances for goal in this game and just lost out on the final strike . The team played excellently and look more like a team every time they step foot on the pitch . Remember they have only played together as a team from January

When United's under 11s last faced Sunderland 24/7 back in late November, Coxhoe found themselves rock bottom of the First Division with only 1 point to show from their first 10 matches. The improvement since those dark days has been truly staggering with the management team of Steve Woodward and Kevin Smith doing a job which Clough/Taylor would be proud. It speaks volumes that Coxhoe went into todays game unbeaten in the league in 2007 and firm favourites to take the points on a bright and breezy day, so it was a bit of a surprise when Sunderland took the lead after only 3 minutes of play. The goal raised Sunderland's spirits who pushed forward and Coxhoe had to weather a bit of a storm in the opening minutes. Sunderland's lead was short lived however, as Ryan Mansfield was brought down with 10 minutes on the clock and Macauley Smith stepped up to deliver a wonderful free kick into the Sunderland area which found United's goal machine Lee Milburn who neatly found the back of the net. The longer the game went on the more Coxhoe's confidence grew and Macauley Smith looked as if he was going score at the midway point of the half but his shot sailed over the bar. Evan Teggert is looking stronger with every game he plays after his horrific injury earlier in the season and he went close 5 minutes before the break with a long range shot with Lee Milburn chasing in for the rebound but the game remained at 1-1 when the half time whistle blew.
Three minutes into the second half Ryan Mansfield hit the Sunderland post but Lee Milburn made no mistake three minutes later as he scored a goal from a superb Ryan Mansfield long throw in. From that point Coxhoe never looked like losing the match as they spent long periods camped in the 24/7 half of the field with Lewis Dodsworth making magnificent runs down the left wing which caused all sorts of problems for Sunderland. Lee Milburn completed his hat-trick with his 18th goal for Coxhoe since his transfer from Durham County (where he scored 3 earlier in the season). Coxhoe's man of the match Lewis Dodsworth rounded off a fantastic day for United when he scored Coxhoe's fourth to make the final score 4-1 to United.

Beginning the weekend sitting on the top of the table, Coxhoe United were hopeful for a strong weekend to maintain their position and try to extend their lead.

The windy conditions against City of Durham Scorpions hampered any fluent passing attempts and it was 8 minutes before the first goal attempt which came from Jamie Appleby for Coxhoe – A hopeful lob that was caught by the wind to be carried over the Scorpions crossbar. United continued to press forward and followed 1 minute later with a Cameron Holdsworth right wing run and superb cross along the face of Durham’s goal, but his speedy run had left the rest of the Coxhoe attack lagging behind so no one was in the box to slot the ball home. More opportunities followed from Alex McGrath and a cheeky lob from Andrew Simpson, but the Scorpions keeper was equal to everything United could throw at him. Similarly the Coxhoe Defensive unit of Lee Saiger, Jack Thirlaway and Stephen Wadge were able to hold the Durham attack at bay.

A half time substitution saw Coxhoe add James Gilson up front in an attempt to find the opener, and he almost did exactly that within 2 minutes, but his shot needed more power to beat an on-form Durham Keeper. United continued to apply the pressure but were unable to find the final killer ball. Possibly the best opportunity came from a single handed attempt from Andrew Simpson, twisting and turning to weave through the Scorpion defence but the final shot lacked power and accuracy. Coxhoe’s final throw of the dice was to bring the fresh legs of Curtis Bihari into the attacking force after his MoM performance of last week but Durham’s response was to put every man behind the ball making it very difficult for Coxhoe to find a way through. However a gamble from James Gilson saw him through on goal, only to shoot high in his haste to beat an advancing Scorpion keeper. The final kick of the game was a corner for Durham which eluded every player on the field to drift beyond the goal. All credit must go to the Durham defence for retaining a clean sheet in light of the numerous attempts Coxhoe had on goal.

Final Score:- CoD Scorpions 0, Coxhoe United 0. MoM – Andrew Simpson.

South Tyneside Jets put their imposing physical presence to work in the 2nd match of the day straight away with a powerful wind assisted shot which almost caught out Lee Saiger in the Coxhoe net, but he managed to take the energy out of the ball and it dropped to Stephen Wadge to clear. Lee Saiger again came to the rescue 2 minutes later to pull off a fantastic save from a Jets free kick that sliced between the bodies gathered in the United box. The effort was in vein as a few seconds later Tyneside found the back of the net with their opener that had looked inevitable from the kick off. The Tyneside pressure was relentless with another run up the wing and great cross, but Stephen Wadge was well positioned to take control and head it safely away. A heavy tackle on Cameron Holdsworth on 10 minutes meant he was forced off before he had a chance to show the Jets his pace and skill in this game, but Alex McGrath replaced him with similar determination.

Into the second half and Tyneside showed no signs of letting up and within 2 minutes they were on the attack again. Lee Saiger did well to narrow the angle, forcing the initial shot to hit the post, but the rebound fell into the path of another Tyneside attacker who slammed home to double the advantage. With Coxhoe’s defensive record so far this season being fantastic, this score line was a shock and heads started to go down, which inevitably led to a Tyneside 3rd. Passing and control in this 2nd game were not to the usual Coxhoe standard and the Jets 4th added insult to injury. Even the determined efforts of Curtis Bihari, Andrew Simpson and Jack Thirlaway could not break through the Tyneside defence. With 2 minutes left on the clock, James Gilson was carried off with an injury to be replaced with Jamie Appleby who immediately burst through on goal, initially hitting the post but ultimately following up with a consolation goal with almost the last kick of the match.

Final Score:- Coxhoe United 1, South Tyneside Jets 4. MoM – Jack Thirlaway.

Under 10 Lions

First game of the day put us up against Byers Green Bees who we’d played in friendlies before the start of the season and they were always close games and this encounter in the league was no different, again a windy day didn’t help playing conditions, however from the start Coxhoe looked like a team who wanted to play some football. The boys played the ball well through midfield and looked to play with some width to stretch the Byers defence which we did with Keiran Latcham pulling the strings with lots of space in midfield and both Lewis and Joe taking on defenders out wide. We created a couple of chances up front with Rhys again looking dangerous, but it was a ball out wide that created the first goal, Joe Nixon picked the ball wide on the left wing, cut back inside and hit an unstoppable shot from just inside the touchline into the opposite top corner of the net.  A lead we well deserved at half time, into the second half and we carried on playing some nice football but Byers came back into the game but strong tackling at the back from Michael and James kept our lead intact until Byers broke clear to leave a 1 on 1 with Mark, who’s brave attempt to block the shot just failed as he was injured and Byers equalised. Our head didn’t go down and we pressed forward to try and get the winner, again it wasn’t our day in front of goal as again we failed to score from a number of chances and just to top off our bad luck a late strike from the edge of the box gave the Byers team a 2-1 win against the run of play.

CUFC 1 Byers Green Bees 2 - MoM: Rhys Wayman

Our second game put us up against Washington Juniors who were a tall, quick side and from the kick off some neat passing and quick movement from the Washington side gave them an early lead and when a second was scored not long after it looked like one of those days, but this week the lads heads didn’t go down and we battled back into the game and to everyone’s credit we did it by trying to play some football. We always had to careful at the back as the quick break from Washington was always going to cause us problems but Michael and James again kept things in check along with some fine saves by our 1 legged goalkeeper Mark. With a re-shuffle in the second half Jordan moved back into defence and Rhys went on up front, we again created chances and opened up their defence again with some good passing which ended with a strike on goal only being parried by the keeper, the loose ball fell to the feet of Keiran Jowett who smashed it into the roof of the net for his first goal for Coxhoe and give us some hope of a result. For the next 5 minutes we gave the Washington defence a lot think about with chances for Lewis, Rhys and Keiran almost bringing us back into the game, but Washington’s speed and passing was always going to create more chances and a couple of late goals sealed the win for Washington.

After the interval team talk from Jeff & Ian Coxhoe started their second game a lot brighter. Two good early moves from Brandon resulted in Coxhoe going behind 2-0.
A great solo effort from Jordan Harker puts Coxhoe back into the game just before half time.
Despite all of their efforts in the second half Coxhoe end the game 3-1 down.

U10 Girls   Coxhoe 0 v Ford & Hylton 8
This was a very hard game against a strong and very tall team. The girls played well , but in the first half Hylton were just too strong for them . However , after a quick drink and talk at half time the girls came out full of determination . Everyone played their very best to only let in two goals. Excellent performances from Vanessa Stephenson , Sophie Whiting and Abigail Griffiths , who came so close to scoring several times .

U10 Girls   Coxhoe 0 v Swallwell Swifts 3
The girls were looking forward to this game as Swallwell are the friendliest team to play , and we had a real battle with them last time . Again the team played well and only lost with three silly goals which we really should have got clear , but never mind . The important thing is is that the girls had fun and are playing better every time they step onto the pitch . Again , first rate performances by Sophie , Holly and Katie Hubery , who l have never seen run as fast as she did today . Well done . Have a good Easter girls !!!!!!

Coxhoe faced a tough away fixture against Whitburn & Cleadon without the services of Ryan Mansfield and Jack Stoneley both of whom have been outstanding in recent weeks. Daniel Hall came in at right back with Jamie Halliday taking up position in midfield. Coxhoe totally dominated the first half and Lee Milburn grabbed the opening goal with only 4 minutes on the clock with a beautiful long range strike. He was prevented from getting a brace at 17 minutes when he forced a stunning save from the in form Whitburn goalkeeper but only three minutes later he made no mistake with a typical "Milburn Special" to make it 2-0 in Coxhoe's favour going into half time.
Going into the second half, Whitburn defended deeper to try and thwart the danger posed by Lee Milburn's lightning pace but Coxhoe still continued to dominate.  Coxhoe survived a scare five minutes into the second when a Whitburn shot from a break sailed over the bar. The Whitburn goal was leading a charmed life when Macauley Smith almost made it three when a shot just went wide of the goal and Jordan Woodword hit the post from a corner. One minute later Macauley Smith put the game out of Whitburn's reach when he converted a long range free kick to make the final score 3-0 to Coxhoe.
Final Score Whitburn & Cleadon 0  Coxhoe United 3 - MoM Coxhoe's superb goallkeeper Jason Jones.

COXHOE UNITED v BRANDON UNITED

The weather was bright when Coxhoe kicked off the game with a cool breeze behind them. Previous matches between the two teams have always been close encounters and today’s game proved no exception. Early pressure from Coxhoe resulted in a good save by the Brandon keeper after three minutes, pushing a Jamie Appleby lob onto the bar and out for a corner. In the next minute a good ball by Alex McGrath put James Gilson through on goal but the Brandon keeper made another good save. Coxhoe kept up the pressure and with five minutes on the clock a swift exchange of passes involving Curtis Bihari, Alex McGrath and Andrew Simpson resulted in a cross for James Gilson to score at the far post; his fourth goal in two games. Coxhoe continued to have the majority of the chances, the best of which was a left foot Alex McGrath shot after thirteen minutes that went just wide. However, Brandon hit back in the next minute and were unlucky not to equalise when a terrific run and shot from their ever dangerous centre forward was miraculously pushed onto the bar by Lee Saiger in the Coxhoe goal. That was the final action of the half that ended 1-0 to Coxhoe who had Curtis Bihari playing brilliantly on the left side of midfield.

Coxhoe made a double substitution at half time, bringing on Stephen Wadge and flying winger Cameron Holdsworth for James Gilson and Jack Thirlaway, with Andrew Simpson switching to defence. In the first minute of the half it was Stephen Wadge, playing in his unfamiliar role up front, who created a good opportunity for himself that was again well saved by the Brandon keeper. Coxhoe continued to push forward and Alex McGrath had two good efforts within the space of a minute, but it was super sub Stephen Wadge who increased Coxhoe’s lead after three minutes of the half, coolly slotting the ball past the advancing Brandon keeper after receiving a lovely pass from Curtis Bihari. Coxhoe continued to play well with their defensive pairing of Jamie Appleby and Andrew Simpson snuffing out the hardworking Brandon attack. Stephen Wadge was continuing to cause problems for the Brandon defence and Alex McGrath almost added to Coxhoe’s lead with a left foot shot that flew just over the bar after eight minutes. By this stage it was all Coxhoe and Cameron Holdsworth brought another good save out of the Brandon keeper after ten minutes. However, in the next minute Lee Saiger had to be alert in the Coxhoe goal when he comfortably saved a Brandon shot. The game ended with a well-deserved 2-0 win to Coxhoe.

Coxhoe’s Man of the Match was their tricky wide man Curtis “watch me hair” Bihari.

 COXHOE UNITED v SWALWELL JUNIORS

As always when playing against a team from the Swalwell club Coxhoe knew they were going to be in for a tough game. And so it proved when Swalwell took the initiative in the first half and had more of the possession and much the better chances during the half, with their tricky left-winger in particular causing problems on several occasions. Swalwell almost took the lead when they had a shot that rattled the bar. However, the score remained 0-0 at half time.

In the second half Coxhoe responded to the half time team talk and they managed to close down their opponents much better with the tenacious Jack Thirlaway putting in some crunching tackles in midfield. Coxhoe managed to press forward more, with Cameron Holdsworth in particular finding space on the right hand side of midfield and getting in some good crosses. However, Swalwell were still dangerous on the break and had several good chances to take the lead, the best of which brought a great save out of Lee Saiger in the Coxhoe goal when one on one with a Swalwell attacker. Despite both sides creating chances, the game looked to be heading for a draw until Coxhoe managed to force a corner with only two minutes of the game remaining. Cameron Holdsworth took the kick to the far post where he found Andrew Simpson unmarked to head Coxhoe into the lead. Swalwell tried to hit back but they couldn’t find a way past the resilient Coxhoe defence of Jamie Appleby and Stephen Wadge. The game ended 1-0 to Coxhoe.

Coxhoe’s Man of the Match was their speedy right-winger Cameron Holdsworth.

At last the Lions started the day with 2 games to look forward to and certainly looked to be up for it as we started well against Anfield Plain with some good passing early on in midfield creating a chance up front for Kieran Jowett who just failed to test the keeper. The match progress much the same for the remainder of the first half with Coxhoe dominating play but unable to score a goal, an injury to Lewis Myers meant an early introduction to the game for Keiran Latcham as our domination increased, however just before the break a rare Anfield attack ended with them scoring from their only chance of the half. Heads didn’t go down at half time and we started the second half just as we had the first, again a lot of hard work from the midfield created chance after chance but it wasn’t to be our day as we found the Anfield keeper in inspired form and our luck ran out with shots going just wide or just over from Rhys, Keiran L and Keiran J. We also rattled the cross bar when a terrific strike from the edge of the box by Lewis Myers at last beat the keeper but agonisingly hit the underside of the bar and dropped for a defender to clear. The effort and commitment from all was 100% and we just had to count ourselves unlucky with the final score ending up 1-0 to Anfield, if it had been a boxing match the referee would have stopped it well before the final whistle.

Anfield Plain 1 CUFC 0 - MOM: Keiran Latcham

Our second game of the day put us up against Biscop Rangers and we started slowly as Biscop broke and scored an early goal to settle their nerves, we tried to pass the ball around in midfield and again created chances with Rhys Wayman back upfront causing problems for the Biscop defence. However it was the Coxhoe defence of Michael Wake and James Gaskell that were the busier as Biscop’s pressure earned them a second goal as the half progressed, an injury to Keiran Jowett caused a re-shuffle with Jordan Atkinson coming on in defence and James Gaskell moving into midfield however just before half time a third goal for Biscop saw our heads go down a little. The second half started with some nice passing between Joe Nixon / Keiran Latcham and Lewis Myers in the middle of the park as we again created chances but failed to hit the target, at the other end Mark Arnold and the Coxhoe defence were having a hard time against a quick and tricky Biscop attack who made it 4-0 after 5 minutes of the second half. After another Coxhoe break and chance the ball was cleared by the Biscop defence for a corner, this was crossed in by Keiran Latcham and it evaded everyone before hitting the back post and trickling across the line for our only goal of the day, not much reward for all of the chances we created in both games. The game ended with us getting tired and not tracking back to allow Biscop to score 3 late goals for a final score of 1-7.

Coxhoe started their 7th game in the cup looking to improve on their 4th place but the Wildcats start the sharper and inside the first 3 minutes they went 1-0 up with some tricky footwork by the Washington forward.  Coxhoe tried to level the score from the kickoff with Anthony Wharrier going close, Jordan Harker & Lewis Elmer also put shots in but they were well saved by the Washington Keeper, 2 minutes later the Wildcats doubled their lead. Coxhoe again tried to get back into the game with Lewis & Tim combining to feed in Jordan who managed a nice one, two with Anthony which resulted in Anthony just shooting over the bar. In the 10th minute of the first half the Wildcats went 3-0 up with an identical move as the first goal. Coxhoe's goalkeeper Zahan was hurt in the move and had to be replaced with Joe Wilson and the first half ended 3-0.
At the start of the second half the goalkeeper position was changed back to Zahan after Joe picked up an injury at the end of the first half. Other changes were Faye Mullen replacing Tim and Sam makes his Coxhoe debut coming on for Jordan. From the kickoff in the second half Coxhoe pulled one back when Anthony dribbled into the box and scored low into the bottom corner. Five minutes later the Wildcats increased their lead to 4-1. Coxhoe made another change, taking Aaron Cane off and replacing with Tim. Tim went into left back to strengthen the defence along side Flynn Fisher and Lewis came off for Jordan. After the changes Faye grabbed the second goal for Coxhoe when Faye's shot from outside the box was deflected into the top of the goal, from the resulting kickoff the Wildcats got their 5th and final of the game with a nice move down the right.

All the girls out shone themselves with Sophie , Ashleigh and Beth making some tough tackles to save our lead . The Under 11s game against Lumley took place in very difficult conditions with a gale force wind and driving snow showers. Coxhoe started the brighter and Macauley Smith forced a good save from the Lumley keeper after 5 minutes of play. An almost identical shot from Macauley after 10 minutes forced the keeper to knock the ball past the post and Ryan Mansfield scored from the resulting corner. When Evan Teggert went close on the 15 minute mark it looked as if Coxhoe were going to run away with the game but Lumley broke away and the well struck shot just drifted past the post. Lewis Dodsworth had a shot on goal two minutes later but the shot was easily dealt with by the Lumley keeper. United continued to press forward but Lumley looked dangerous on the break and went close on another couple of occasions. Lee Milburn scored on the stroke of half time to make the score 2-0 in Coxhoe’s favour going into the break.

Lumley were far stronger in the second half and pulled a goal back after 5 minutes courtesy of a beautifully struck free kick. Two minutes later Ryan Mansfield almost restored United’s two goal advantage but his shot drifted past the post. Coxhoe were stung when Lumley scored twice at 12 & 20 minutes, again with superbly taken free kicks and after all their hard work United found themselves 3-2 down but the Coxhoe boys never know when they are beaten and Lee Milburn scored his second of the game two minutes before the final whistle to even the game and maintain Coxhoe’s unbeaten league run for 2007.

COXHOE UNITED v TYNESIDE JUNIORS

The weather was bright and a bit more than breezy when Coxhoe kicked off the game playing into a strong wind. James Gilson had a chance for Coxhoe in the first minute of the game, shooting just wide from a Cameron Holdsworth pass. Tyneside had their first chance in the next minute which was turned around the post for a corner by Lee Saiger in the Coxhoe goal. The subsequent corner was cleared by the Coxhoe defence. After 4 minutes the Tyneside keeper made a terrific save from an Alex McGrath shot that was heading for the top corner of the net, following a great knock down by James Gilson. Coxhoe broke the deadlock from the resulting corner when James Gilson, lurking at the back post, looped the ball over the Tyneside keeper; the strong wind doing it’s best to keep the ball out of the net, but the referee deemed the ball over the line. More great work by James Gilson after 7 minutes lead to another Coxhoe corner that was taken short to Jamie Appleby who blasted a shot just over the bar. Coxhoe were managing to play well despite the tricky conditions and Stephen Wadge was marshalling the defence to cope with Tyneside’s direct attacks with the wind at their backs. Coxhoe front man James Gilson was a constant threat so it was no surprise when he doubled Coxhoe’s lead after 14 minutes, following up to score after the Tyneside keeper had made another good save from a Cameron Holdsworth effort. Tyneside responded immediately with a shot on target that was comfortably saved by Lee Saiger to bring the first half action to a close, with Coxhoe leading 2-0.

Coxhoe began the second half with the wind behind them and immediately went on the attack with an Alex McGrath shot going just wide after a good exchange of passes with Cameron Holdsworth. Coxhoe kept up the pressure and good work from Curtis Bihari after 3 minutes of the half resulted in a Coxhoe corner, taken by Jamie Appleby and turned in at the near post by Alex McGrath. Tyneside were finding it difficult to get the ball forward as Coxhoe were making good use of the wind advantage and both Jamie Appleby and Andrew Simpson just failed to score with long range efforts. After 9 minutes a good interchange of passes involving James Gilson, Curtis Bihari and Andrew Simpson finished with a Jamie Appleby shot going just wide. Coxhoe eventually managed to break through the stubborn Tyneside defence again after 10 minutes when good work from Andrew Simpson found Jamie Appleby on the right wing who beat the Tyneside defence before unselfishly squaring the ball across the face of the goal for James Gilson to complete his hat-trick. Jack Thirlaway almost made it 5-0 in the last minute of the game when he received a throw in and tried his luck from long range that went just wide.

The game ended with a convincing 4-0 victory to Coxhoe.

Coxhoe’s Man of the Match was their target man and hat-trick hero James Gilson.

COXHOE UNITED v WHEATLEY HILL ROCKETS

A change of pitch meant that Wheatley Hill kicked off the game with a strong cross-wind that rendered an exciting game between the top two sides in the division almost impossible. However, both sides did their best to play controlled football but it was Wheatley Hill who adapted slightly better to the conditions. Early Rockets pressure lead to a good save from Lee Saiger in the Coxhoe goal after 3 minutes, the Rockets hitting the bar from the resulting corner kick. Coxhoe fought their way more into the game around the seven minute mark and had two good efforts in the space of a minute, from Andrew Simpson and Alex McGrath, both saved by the Rockets keeper. The Rockets counter attacked and it took a brave save from Lee Saiger, diving at the feet of a Rockets forward, to prevent them taking the lead. The strong wind continued to hinder both teams and it was no surprise when the fairly even first half ended 0-0.

The second half continued in similar vein to the first with Wheatley Hill creating the early pressure with a good effort on goal going just over the bar after 2 minutes, and Coxhoe coming more into the game as the half progressed. The weather conditions generally lead to a stalemate with both sides finding it difficult to create any clear cut chances. However, Coxhoe’s Jack Thirlaway did manage to intercept a pass out of the Wheatley Hill defence after 10 minutes, but his effort was foiled by the Rockets keeper. The Rockets almost stole all three points late in the game when a pass across the face of the goal missed the on-rushing forwards and went out for a throw in. It was a shame that this eagerly awaited match between these two sides was spoiled by the weather conditions; the game ending 0-0. Coxhoe keeper Lee Saiger, along with Stephen Wadge and Jamie Appleby in the Coxhoe defence, once again managing to keep a clean sheet; their fifth in six games.

Final Score Coxhoe United 0  Wheatley Hill Rockets 0

Coxhoe’s Man of the Match was hardworking midfielder Alex McGrath.

Under 10 Lions

After a long wait with our first game being cancelled the Lions faced Washington United Tigons on a very windy day, the wait and the wind worked against us as the Lions started slowly and it was Washington that had most of the early play with a number of good chances wasted and some resolute defending from Jordan Atkinson and James Gaskell. An early injury to Joe Nixon meant Lewis Myers, our only sub for the day, was early into the action, and after the shaky start we got back into the game for the last 5 minutes of the first half with some good passing in midfield from Keiran Latcham and Keiran Jowett and we closed the half with a couple of good breaks from Lewis and Rhys Wayman our only chances as it ended 0-0 at half time.

The wind got even stronger in the second half which made playing football very difficult and a serious of corners for Washington ended with the first goal of the game, as  a half cleared corner was forced into the net by the Washington attack. Going behind seemed to spur the Lions on and after a couple of missed opportunities a break down the right by Rhys Wayman saw a cross come and it looked like Lewis Myers would score but he missed his kick and the ball ended up at the feet of Keiran Latcham who coolly put the ball into the back of the net to level the scores. The game open up after that and the Lions should have gone behind but a number of superb saves from Mark Arnold somehow kept the ball out of the net and us in the game however as we looked to press forward to snatch a winner we were caught on the break with Washington pushing forward with a 4v2 attack which ended up with late goal for Washington as the score ended 2-1.

United's first game was against 3rd place Waldridge Park Blues and United started the brighter of the two, with Jordan Harker and Lewis Elmer both going close early doors. A nice move between Faye Mullen and Lewis Elmer saw Anthony Wharrier just shoot wide, The Blues got a corner mid-way through the first half with their first attack of the game, from the corner the blues went 1-0 up with a great header just inside the box. United didn't let their heads go down and Anthony Wharrier, Jordan Harker and Faye Mullen all made the blues keeper work. Then from another corner Washington went 2-0 up in an identical move as the first. From the resulting kick-off Anthony Wharrier and Jordan Harker combined and Jordan's low shot was saved on the line by the keeper. Two minutes before the break Danny Teggert put a nice ball in the box and set up Jordan for a beautiful shot that was parried back out to the feet of Lewis Elmer who scored. United went into the break 2 - 1 down but were the better side.
The second half was a stalemate, with Danny Teggart and Flynn Fisher keeping Zahan's goal quiet. Anthony & Jordan had no joy at the other end. Most of the play stopped in midfield with Faye & Lewis having a busy time but to no avail.

Under 10 Girls

Congratulations Girls , this was our first win in the league and a well deserved one at that . The whole team played strongly from the start . They were determined to win this game as Blaydon were just below them on goal difference . The wind made the game difficult , but the girls battled and made lots of attacking runs with Sophie Whiting regularly pushing up from defence . Finally , Sophie crossed a ball into the box and Abigail Griffiths banged it in the net . I have never seen so many parents jumping around the side line , it was a sight to see .
Final Score Coxhoe United 1  Blaydon 0

The girls started this game full of confidence after the win . Swallwell are one of the strongest teams in this league , but also one of the friendliest . Although the score suggests we lost easily it was not the case . The girls had many attacks , but this time the ball would not cross the line . Ashleigh Stores had a very strong game keeping their left wing tightly marked and Holly Crozier our goalkeeper was amazing, with save after save . It is just a matter of time until this team wins again . Well done all!!!!!!!!

Final Score Coxhoe United 0  Swalwell Juniors 6

COXHOE UNITED v SEAHAM ALLSTARS

In this first ever meeting between the two teams Coxhoe kicked off in overcast conditions with a strong crosswind. Coxhoe had the better of the early exchanges with an Alex McGrath effort just over the bar after 2 minutes, and an Andrew Simpson shot on goal blocked by the Seaham defence. Seaham came more into the game around the five-minute mark and forced a couple of corners that came to nothing. The difficult conditions generally made the game a midfield stalemate, however, Coxhoe finished the half the stronger with a good fluent passing move finishing with an Alex McGrath shot saved, with the follow-up by Curtis Bihari blocked. Coxhoe then forced four corners in succession that resulted in nothing more than a shot from Stephen Wadge just going wide of the post. Seaham countered with an effort that was well saved by Lee Saiger in the Coxhoe goal. Then a great attacking move by Coxhoe at the end of the half resulted in a Jamie Appleby shot just over the bar. Both teams were evenly matched with Coxhoe probably just shading the half in terms of chances created.

Coxhoe had the better chances early in the second half and took the lead after three minutes when Andrew Simpson finished well, shooting past the Seaham keeper following a pass from Alex McGrath. James Gilson replaced the hard working Curtis Bihari after four minutes and added fresh legs to the Coxhoe attack. However, Seaham were becoming more determined in an effort to hit back and had a shot well saved by Lee Saiger. Seaham continued to keep up the pressure, but Stephen Wadge and Jack Thirlaway remained solid in the Coxhoe defence. Seaham continued to push for an equaliser but were almost caught out by a couple of Coxhoe counter attacks from Andrew Simpson and Jamie Appleby. The entertaining game between these two evenly matched sides ended with a 1-0 win for Coxhoe.

Coxhoe’s Man of the Match was their speedy wingback Jamie Appleby.

COXHOE UNITED v SHOTTON BOYS

In their second game of the day against Shotton Boys Coxhoe were looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the cup campaign. They had a blistering start in the first minute of the game with a well-taken Andrew Simpson goal from a James Gilson pass. Shotton hit back immediately with a couple of shots just wide, the second of which hit a parent spectator on the back of the head, much to the amusement of everyone. Coxhoe continued to push for a second goal with good efforts on goal from Alex McGrath and Jamie Appleby. However, they didn’t have things all their own way as Shotton had several attacks of their own, the best of which was well saved by Lee Saiger at the near post. Towards the end of the half Coxhoe continued to press forward and both James Gilson and Curtis Bihari were unlucky not to score. In the final minute of the half Coxhoe did increase their lead with Alex McGrath’s left foot finish after great build-up play from James Gilson, Andrew Simpson and Curtis Bihari.
